Rotorua casual dining is pretty much a way of life here. It's a laid back city, so expect to find lots of pubs and casual bars with al fresco tables and quick, easy menus. To make use of the stunning scenery up by Lake Rotorua, you'll find lots of cafes, pubs and bistros towards the top of Tutanekai Street. Drop into the larger hotels in town, and check out their casual diners and cafes, too. You might pay more for a sandwich or pub meal, but the standard tends to be higher. Further out, you can head to Lake Tarawera (western side) for a very scenic cafe lunch by the water. Children are welcome in most places, but do check first, especially in the pubs and bars.
