What’s the best time to visit?
If you prefer the hotter climate, the best time to visit is during the summer months of December, January and February. Refer to our Rotorua Annual Weather Chart for more details.
How do I get to Rotorua?
Rotorua is a 3 to 4 hour drive from Auckland and 6 hours from Wellington. Regular coach services also operate from both these cities. Taupo is a 30 minute drive from Rotorua while Tauranga is about an hour’s drive from Rotorua. Or, you can fly on one of the daily flights from Auckland, Wellington, Queenstown or Christchurch. There are also a couple of flights a week from Sydney.
How do I get from Rotorua Airport into the town centre?
Rotorua Airport is 8km or a 5 minute drive from the city centre. You can take the Super Shuttle minibus (shared passenger service) or the BayBus which is less than $3 for a single fare. Taxis cost approximately $40.
Where are the main hospitals?
Rotorua Hospital is on the corner of Arawa Street and Pukeroa Road. 07 348 1199. Taupo Hospital is located on Kotare Street. 07 376 1000.

Where can I change my money?
You can cash in your traveller cheques, purchase currency and make international payment transfers in the major banks and bureaux de change in Rotorua and Tauranga.
What’s the currency?
The New Zealand Dollar (NZD) is the local currency, divided into 100 cents. There is no restriction on the amount of foreign currency that can be brought in or taken out of New Zealand, although more than $10,000 must be declared at customs. What’s the Time Zone?
New Zealand is 12 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and two hours ahead of Sydney. Clocks are put forward one hour for daylight saving lasting from October to March.
What clothing should I bring?
The changing weather in New Zealand means it’s worth carrying clothes to suit any condition. During the hotter summer months of December to March, light clothing is the order of the day. The autumn and winter months require warmer clothing, although it rarely gets below zero. It’s always a good option to layer your clothing to adapt to the changing weather as cold and frosty mornings often turn into glorious warm and sunny days.

What are the electrical specifications?
New Zealand’s electrical current is 230/240 volts, 50 hertz. Most hotels also provide 110 volt AC sockets for electrical razors. Power outlets accept flat, 2 or 3 pin plugs.

Where's the best place for a hot pool experience?
Check out the Polynesian Spa that is nestled right next to Lake Rotorua and just behind Government Gardens. We'd recommend spending a bit more money and having a soak in the Lake Spa. Another great option is the hot pool and mud pools at Hell's Gate - you've also the goethermal park to explore.
