Description
The tour begins with hotel pickup in Auckland between 5:45 and 6:30 AM, followed by a scenic two-hour drive through the Waikato countryside. The first stop is Tirau, a small town known for its corrugated iron sculptures and distinctive building designs, offering a 15-minute break to stretch and get refreshments.
Next, the group continues to Rotorua and visits Te Puia, the geothermal park and cultural center. Here, you will see the Pōhutu Geyser, the largest active geyser in the Southern Hemisphere, along with bubbling mud pools and steam vents.
The Kiwi Conservation Centre offers an opportunity to observe New Zealand’s iconic native bird up close. The New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute provides insight into traditional carving and weaving, culminating in a 90-minute guided cultural tour that includes a pōhiri (welcome ceremony), waiata (song), mōteatea (chant), poi dance, and haka performance in Te Aronui a Rua meeting house.
After the cultural experience, enjoy a drive around Rotorua’s main sights followed by a free walk in the Redwood Forest among Californian redwoods and native ferns, ideal for nature lovers and photography.
On the return journey, visit the Putāruru Blue Spring along the Te Waihou Walkway. The spring’s water is filtered underground for up to 100 years, maintaining a steady temperature of 11°C. The short riverside walk passes through bush, farmland, and wetlands offering tranquil photo opportunities.
