Good restaurants in Rotorua are not hard to find, particularly if you want to sample some traditional Maori hangi. The main area to head to is'Tutanekai Street', better known as 'Eat Street' which is lined up with al fresco dining restaurants.
Although Rotorua restaurants has its fair share of fast food outlets and good cafe fare, look carefully and you'll discover some more refined establishments. The Skyline Gondola is a chance to enjoy a quality buffet with panoramic views of the region, while the larger hotels contain some decent dining rooms which are open to the public. On Thursdays, a number of the local restaurants have stalls at the Rotorua Might Market which is held on Thursday evenings.
