Begin with a pick-up from central Rotorua accommodation between 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM. Enjoy a scenic drive through forest and farmland to Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, New Zealand’s largest boiling mud pool. Take a one-hour guided walk through colourful hot springs and thermal features, concluding with the Lady Knox Geyser eruption at 10:15 AM.
Next, visit Waimangu Volcanic Rift Valley, shaped by the 1886 Mt Tarawera eruption. Your guide explains the geological history as you take another one-hour guided walk among active hot springs and geothermal sites within this regenerated bush-covered valley.
At around noon, pause for a 30-minute lunch break at Waimangu Volcanic Valley Cafe. After lunch, return transport drops you back to your accommodation or city center by approximately 1:00 PM.
