Description
Depart from Lake Rotorua and ascend to panoramic views of the city, Mokoia Island, and Sulfur Bay. Look out for all 14 lakes as you fly up Mount Tarawera’s slopes, a dormant volcano that dramatically reshaped the area.
Enjoy aerial views of the volcanic rift, colorful craters, and lakes covering the Pink and White Terraces locations. Pass over Waimangu Volcanic Valley, the world’s youngest geothermal park, then see Frying Pan Lake and Inferno Crater’s intense blue waters.
Continue south over Wai-O-Tapu’s geothermal wonders, including the Artist’s Palette and Champagne Pool. The floatplane will descend along the Waikato River to land at Orakei Korako’s hidden valley, surrounded by native bush.
Disembark for a one-hour self-guided walk through Orakei Korako’s geothermal park, featuring hot springs, geysers, mud pools, a thermal cave, and large silica terraces. A café is available for coffee or snacks before reboarding.
The return flight passes over farmlands and the Paeroa mountain range before landing at Lake Rotorua’s pier.
