Located about 15 minutes from Rotorua’s town center, Hell's Gate allows you to start by exploring geothermal features independently using the included map or join a daily guided tour.
Learn about the geothermal area's history and its unique healing muds, then experience New Zealand’s historic spa. The thermal mud and acidic sulfurous waters, used by local Māori for over 800 years, open and cleanse pores while exfoliating and deeply cleansing the skin.

Important Information
- Guided tours run daily at 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM, subject to availability
- The mud bath time limit is 20 minutes per person per visit for health and safety
- Minimum age for mud baths is 2.5 years; sulfur spa minimum age is 6 months; Māori carving is for ages 12 and up
- Swimwear and towels will retain a sulfur smell and should be cleaned thoroughly; using old swimwear is recommended. Rental and purchase options available onsite, subject to availability
- The spa's mud and waters may tarnish most jewelry, especially silver; wait 24 to 48 hours before re-wearing jewelry after your visit
- Some spa services are subject to availability
