Immerse yourself in the art of carving jade and the history of New Zealand pounamu with this amazing Jade Carving experience located in Rotorua. Immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and atmosphere of our carving studio and get up-close to the action observing each step of the carving process as local artists deliver a live jade carving demonstration. You'll get to ask them questions as they work, and they'll share their stories, knowledge and expertise with you. With your expert guide, you'll embark on an in-depth journey into the rich history of jade carving in New Zealand, uncovering the significance of pounamu for Māori and exploring the traditional uses and values of the stone. And to top it all off, you'll get to select your very own piece of pounamu from a variety of shapes and sizes and learn how to string it into a necklace to take home.

  • This tour takes place indoors. You will be required to stand for 30 minutes. Our carving studio can be noisy, but disposable earplugs will be provided
