The National Kiwi Hatchery is proudly the world’s largest and most successful kiwi hatching and rearing centre. As a not-for-profit, charitable trust, it focuses on breeding and nurturing kiwis in captivity to help boost the population of this endangered species. The guided one-hour Kiwi Encounter tour offers a unforgettable opportunity to explore this renowned conservation center, learn about the kiwi bird’s struggle for survival, and see how they have successfully hatched over 2,500 kiwi chicks. Observe the work of the kiwi husbandry team and gain insight into the process of hatching and raising chicks. Every Kiwi Hatchery tour is a 100% donation to our kiwi hatching program, with all funds directly supporting our conservation efforts. Your support is directly helping save our precious kiwi.

Important Information

• The National Kiwi Hatchery is located onsite at the Agrodome, Rotorua. To see kiwi eggs and chicks you are best to visit during hatching season, between the months of September and March. Outside of these months you will have chance to observe our resident adult kiwi foraging in our Nocturnal House.
