With so many lakes and other waterways in the vicinity, Fishing in Rotorua is unsurprisingly a popular activity. You can pick and choose from a number of tranquil, picturesque spots, and either fish on your own, or join a guided group.  

Rotorua Fishing is a year round activity here. Lake Roititi, Lake Tarawera, and Lake Rotorua itself, all have great fishing. There are several boating and fishing charters that you can hire for self-use, or that come with a guide, so you can be shown to all the best places. For kids there's trout stream at Waiteti, with tuition and trout fishing for beginners. The more experienced anglers and fishermen will want to head to Tarawera where the trout are famously big and plump. It's also one of the quietest, most tranquil and picturesque stretches of water in the area. So if you're after a whole day of peace and quiet, with a stunning backdrop, look not further than here. Lake Rotorua is a tourist haven, so will always be busier than Tarawera, but it still has some great fishing. Get up early to dodge the crowds, and enjoy messing about on the water, with magical scenery all around.
