Best Gardens and Parks in Rotorua Central

Local Recommendations from our My Guide Rotorua team

Gardens & Parks in Rotorua are lush, green and plentiful. The geothermal landscape makes for some rich soil, and the locals like to celebrate the richness of the greenery by spending as much time outside as possible. Feel free to join them.

Rotorua Gardens & Parks are some of the most naturally beautiful in New Zealand. Government Gardens is the main green area within the CBD, and houses the museum, a reconstructed Maori village, and has some beautiful walks by the lake.   Between Whakaue St and the lake to the north of the CBD, is another nice, landscaped park, perfect for jogging and dog walking. Kuirau Park, situated just off Lake Road, is a great park for a walk and to observe some free geothermal activity.   The Arikikapapa Reserve, in the south of the city, has some beautiful vegetation, plus small lagoons, geysers and natural mineral pools and is definitely worth a wander. The towering Redwoods in Whakarewarewa Forest provide a beautiful setting for walking, jogging and mountain biking and should be on your 'must do list' of activities.
