NZ's First Ever Crime Writing Festival.
Rotorua Noir is the first crime writing festival to be held in New Zealand and will align with the tenth year of the prestigious Ngaio Marsh Award. It combines, for the very first time, the top of the New Zealand crime writing scene along with some impressive international talent.
Authors appearing include Michael Robotham and Paul Hardisty from Australia, Lilja Sigurdardottir from Iceland, Kati Hiekkapelto from Finland and Alex Gray from Scotland as well as New Zealand's own Paul Cleave, Fiona Sussman, Alan Carter and Vanda Symon.
It is time to celebrate New Zealand crime writing and the people who've created alot of our favourite titles. The festival will be a fantastic opportunity for members of the public to meet their favourite authors and discover what goes on during the creative process that takes an idea from its inception to the page.
Over three days we will be holding creative writing workshops for aspiring authors, two days of panel discussions featuring crime writers from as far away as Scotland, Iceland and Finland as well as some fantastic one-on-one interviews.
There will be a short story competition for local writers to show us what they can do with the winner getting to read from their work at the festival. We plan to include the local community of Rotorua as much as possible in what will be a thrilling event for the city.
