The Rotorua Walking Festival is an annual walking event held over two days where recreational walkers can either walk one or both days. On Saturday the walks are through the world famous Whakarewarewa Forest through great Redwood trees and through native bush and planted forested areas over distances of 10, 21 (half marathon) or 42 kms (marathon). Sunday walks are through active geothermal features and through parks and reserves and lakefront and stream areas of Rotorua and are for distances of 10, 20 or 30 kms. All walkers receive a certificate and those that walk each of the two days receive a medal. The walking festival is accredited internationally through the IML Walking Association and the IVV. The walks have been operated for over 20 years and walker s who participate come from throughout NZ and many international origins. Details to walks are as follows.
