Directions to Rainbow Springs
Rainbow Springs in Rotorua is a remarkable haven of wildlife, with not just native species but also plants and animals imported during colonization, all of which need protecting and conserving. The park is a natural wonder in itself, with magical walkways through huge forests with giant redwood and kauri trees, fresh spring fed streams and a wide selection of New Zealand's fascinating wildlife.
Walking through the park gives you a sense of the real New Zealand, with the smells, sights and sounds of an unspoilt native paradise. Along with the kiwi, the park is home to tuatara, scaup, parrots, kea, kaka and so much more. A huge glass-sided pool inside the park lets you get an up-close look at large trout. There are also trout pools within the park, along with a 4m high waterfall, and a stunning piece of greenstone weighing 1.8 tonnes.
New to the park in 2012, is the adrenaline packed 'Big Splash' experience. This interactive journey through time, explores the ecological evolution of New Zealand with state of the art animatronics and projection technology that bring dinosaurs to life! As you hurtle towards the water at the end of the ride you'll reminded why it's called 'the Big Splash'!
By day, Rainbow Springs is idyllic, but at night, it's a different world entirely. Under lit ponds, fairy lights and abundant nocturnal wildlife, you will get a chance to experience the walk-through, open-air kiwi enclosure. Another night time experience can be had at the Mitai Maori Village. Join Mitai for a unique cultural experience includes a traditional haka, waka (Maori canoes), a hangi meal and a bush walk.
