Kerosene Creek is a hot spring that flows through the natural bush of Rotorua, approximately thirty kilometres from the city centre.
The natural hot springs features a two metre waterfall that flows into a tranquil hot pool. It's the perfect retreat for those who want to enjoy the thermal delights of nature and of course there is no entry fee to pay! There's even a few excavated mini pools that bathers have created over the years from the smooth rock to enjoy.
Given Kerosene Creek is a public spot, it's always advisable to keep your belongings close by.
Visitors are advised not to put their head under the water as Amoebic Meningitis has occurred in the past due to amoeba living in the hot pools. It's a very rare disease, but has caused death in the past.
How To Get There:
To reach Kerosene Creek, visitors need to leave Rotorua along state highway 5 towards Taupo. After 28 kilometres, turn off at the signposted Old Waiotapu Road (just past Rainbow Mountain Scenic Reserve). It's then another two kilomotres along an unsealed road until the very end where there is a small car park.
